The Chapter Everyone Read
We all know
what it’s like
to be known
for one chapter.
One mistake.
One failure.
One season.
And yet,
we tend
to do
the same.
We rarely
know
the whole story.
We judge people
by the chapter
we happened
to witness.
The woman
at the well
knew that feeling too.
To everyone else,
she was only
her reputation.
But Jesus
saw more
than the chapter
everyone else
had already read.
He saw
the woman
behind
the reputation.
The hurt
beneath
the history.
Was it shame
that led her
to the well
when no one else
would be there?
Scripture doesn’t say.
But mercy
was already
waiting.
Jesus knew
everything
about her.
And He
didn’t
walk away.
He leaned in.
He showed her
she was
still worth
His time.
Still worth
His attention.
He didn’t
pretend
her past
didn’t exist.
He refused
to let it
become
her identity.
When shame
expected
rejection.
Mercy
drew closer.
She was
fully known.
And still
welcomed.
I wonder
how many people
are longing
for someone
to see
beyond
the chapter
everyone else
keeps reading.
Maybe that’s
one reason
so many people
were drawn
to Jesus.
He saw
what everyone else
overlooked.
Stories have a way of connecting us.
